Crock Pot Ribs!

I usually slow-bake my ribs in the oven. But there is nothing better than a “fix it and forget it” meal! Being able to start your dinner in the morning and freeing up your day is priceless!! This crock pot rib recipe is really good and super simple.

To make this Crock Pot rib recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

Ribs (pork or beef)

2 cups bbq sauce + extra to brush

1 cup ketchup

3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (you can substitute white vinegar)

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 tsp Worcestershire

dash of hot sauce

salt and pepper to taste

Start by putting your ribs in a single layer on a baking sheet. Salt & Pepper to taste. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes, then turn them over and bake another 15 minutes. This process will render the extra juice from the meat so the ribs do not BOIL in the crock pot.

In a medium sized bowl, combine bbq sauce,

ketchup,

vinegar,

brown sugar,

Worcestershire,

and hot sauce. Mix well.

Place browned ribs in the crock pot.

Pour your sauce over the ribs, and cook on high for 4-6 hours or low for 8-10 hours.

After the ribs are ready, brush with remaining bbq sauce. Broil in your oven until bbq sauce gets caramelized!

Fall off the bone tender!!

Reggie Bush Crockpot Gumbo Recipe!

This is a great food to serve at this year’s Super Bowl! I love keeping with a theme, and because New Orleans is making their first appearance, Gumbo is great replacement for Chili.

To make this Gumbo recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
1/3 cup flour
1/3 cup cooking oil
3 cups chicken broth
12 oz andouille sausage
2 cups cooked chicken, chopped
2 cups cooked chicken, diced
2 cups okra, sliced
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1/2 cup chopped celery
4 cloves garlic, minced
salt to taste
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp round red pepper
cooked white rice

First, we need to make a roux. This is the hardest part of this dish. If you don’t feel like standing at the stove for 20 min, don’t make this gumbo. You can not leave a roux, you must stir constantly to avoid burning it.

In a 2 quart saucepan, stir together flour,

and oil.

Let the stirring begin!! Cook over med high heat for 4 minutes, stirring constantly.

After the 4 minutes is up, you may begin to get nervous as you see the sauce breaking but don’t worry, just keep stirring!

Reduce heat to medium. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, for about 15 minutes or more until the roux is dark reddish brown. Let Roux cool.

In a crock pot, add chicken broth,

add the roux. (Sorry about this picture)

Add the sausage,

I like these!

Add the bell pepper,

the okra. (ok, yes, That is frozen okra! I couldn’t find fresh!)

the onion,

celery,

garlic,

Salt,

(I would use very little salt. Maybe 2 tsp. you can always add more later.)

pepper,

and red pepper.

Add chopped chicken.

(I used chicken breast that I boiled earlier.)

and diced chicken.

Stir to combine. Cook on high for 4-6 hours or low for 8-10 hours.

Serve with cooked white rice.

Enjoy!
